Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole Movie Review
I watched Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole for two times. One in the advance screening in Cinema 1, SM Megamall courtesy of 99.5 RT and on it's premiere night at IMAX, SM North EDSA the next day. Why? I just want to know what's the difference between the Digital 3D and the 3D at IMAX.
When I first saw the trailer of this film, it really caught my attention because of the superb graphic. It has a nice plot too, which makes the movie more interesting. So that means, I have high expectation on this film.
PLOT: 8 / 10
The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga' Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father's favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd's jealousy has terrible consequences--causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians--Soren's only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.
CAST & CHARACTERS: 9 / 10
Jim Sturgess as the voice of Soren, the main character in this 3D movie is OK to me. But my favorite character is Eglantine (voiced by Adrienne deFaria) She is so cute, just like her voice, though she only have a bit role on this one. I even have a plush doll of her, given to me at the premiere of Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Helen Mirren as Nyra, The Evil Queen and Joel Edgerton as Metalbeak is very apt for their characters too. I just don't like Gylfie's character she is forgettable, watch out for Digger & Twilight they brings the funny stuffs on this movie.
MUSIC SCORE: 7 / 10
The official soundtrack "Take To The Sky" which is a song by Owl City is really suitable to the film not just because they have 'Owl' in their name ;) but as the whole song played on a certain part of the movie it has this distinct feel that can leave you in a happy state LOL. Another great song they've used is "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars, this is the one they've used on the movie trailers. Over-all the music score all through out the movie is good but not bad. The music will tell you if Metalbeak is around :D
SPECIAL EFFECTS/CGI: 10 / 10
I'm not that hard to please so I'm giving this movie a perfect score in this department. I think they focused more on the quality of graphics of the movie so you will see the vividness of every details on almost every scene. I can say that it's perfectly done. Watching this film on the regular format is useless, go watch it in 3D!
WHAT I DONT LIKE ABOUT THIS MOVIE: Though we all know that this movie has a good plot and tremendous visuals, I think they should also focus more on the storyline.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS MOVIE: It's almost perfect! The graphics are superb, they did a very good job differentiating one owl to another. Just looking at the owls, you can easily tell who is the good one and who is not. Plus you will learn new things like 'moonblink' and "trusting your gizzard." This is only movie where you will see owls wearing golden helmets and they have 'battle claws' too! :)
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is now showing across the Philippines, released by Warner Bros. Rated GP by the MTRCB and runs for 90 minutes. I recommend you to watch this at IMAX to enjoy it's full potential.
