Judy Ann Santos & Sarah Geronimo in "Hating Kapatid"
The 2 of the country’s biggest superstars, together for the first time in a landmark team-up!
In this comedy, Judy Ann Santos stars as Maria Rica and Sarah Geronimo is Maria Cecilia, daughters of public school teachers turned OFW. Left in the care of their Lola Gerty (Gina Pareño), Rica and Cecilia grow up in Bocaue, Bulacan, where they help look after the family’s firecracker business. The two girls are inseparable. Rica takes her role as the big sister seriously, to the point of breaking up with her boyfriend, Bong (JC DeVera), and vowing to devote her life taking care of Cecil when the latter is hurt in a minor accident.
Other cast include Cherry Pie Picache, DJ Durano, Gina Pareño, JC De Vera, Luis Manzano, Tonton Gutierrez & Showtime's Vice Ganda.
I got an invite to the Hating Kapatid premiere at the Cinema 10 of SM Megamall. The ticket says that it will start at 7:30 but it started around 9:15 PM. I think this premiere night is poorly managed, those security guards said that we should line up at the side but they allow other people to enter to the other side. Other people on my line is shouting "Guard, dito ang pila oh".
The Cinema 10 is overflowing! I think there's a lot of people who have no ticket who get in. There's also a scalper going around and try to buy our tickets, then I saw he sells some tickets to other. After Sarah Geronimo arrived we are still on that line, few minutes before the movie started. "Magsisimula na yung pelikula, hindi pa ba kayo magpapasok?!" shouted the old lady on the front. "Puno na daw po kase sa loob, maghihintay pa kami ng tawag sa loob kung magpapasok pa." the guard replied. "Uwi na lang kaya tayo?! said one blogger. Then there's a group of women arrived, they said "Galing na kami sa loob, bumili lang kami!" We got that chance to get inside LOL.
The guard announced that they will allow 10 more to enter, I dunno what happened to the others, tsk tsk. Good thing I still have a seat when we got inside, but one of the blogger is just standing the whole movie.I just don't get it why we have to wait in line outside? Okay end of rant! This is my first time to post like this because it's also the first time I experience such ;)
Okay let's talk about the movies :)
Sarah Geronimo is such a versatile actress. She can do drama and comedy very well, Sarah also showed her singing prowess in this movie. I didn't know that she has some chemistry with Luis Manzano, until I saw this. Their partnership is a riot. My fave scene involving the two is when Sarah followed Luis at EDSA while they have a petty quarrel. Watch out for that!
Although we noticed some inconsistencies in Judy Ann Santos' body that's understandable. So don't be surprised when you see a skinny Judy Anne on a scene, then a bloated one on the next. I just think she's too old for JC De Vera. There's no chemistry between the two. The story focused more on Judy Ann's dramatic side, I want more of her funny side.
As expected Vice Ganda is really funny, though you will really noticed that her spiels are scripted unlike the impromptu punchline he usually says live on TV. Atak Arana, who played the manager of Sarah in her work didn't showed all his funny side. Remember slapstick comedy? that's him.
Hating Kapatid is unexpectedly good! I really though that it will focus more on the drama side but not! (It focused more on the product placements) It focused more on the funny side of the story. The movie is directed by Wenn V. Deramas and is written by Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario, the same team behind the record-breaking Tanging Ina series, that explain why DJ Durano is also here :) Released by Viva Films and runs for 1 h and 55 minutes, rated GP by the MTRCB. Hating Kapatid is now showing across the Philippines.
International screenings begin July 23 (Friday) in Canada.
