"RIO" Movie Review

Just got home from the premiere night of RIO at Cinema 3 of Glorietta 4. They also call it a "RIO Family Day Screening" because aside from the cocktails, fun and games, there were ice creams, cotton candy, french fries, cereals and a  photobooths too. Not your ordinary movie screening indeed! =)

I'm really looking forward to this movie, especially upon knowing that this film is from the same makers of "Ice Age." Here's a short synopsis of RIO: Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) is a rare species of Blue Macaw, who is a resident at a bookstore in Moose Lake, Minnesota, and the last male of his kind. When scientists learn that another macaw was spotted in South America and that the macaw, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway) is female, they take him out of Minnesota and send him to Rio de Janeiro to meet her.

Other characters are voiced by Rodrigo Santoro, Bebel Gilberto, Kate del Castillo, Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Leslie Mann, Jemaine Clement, Jane Lynch, and Robin Thicke.

My favorite character, of course aside from the two lead characters, are Pedro, a fat cardinal bird voiced by Black Eyed Peas member, Will.i.am, his hilarious tandem with Nico, the small canary bird voiced by Jamie Foxx is perfect! Jamie Foxx has a great voice too especially when his character sing a ballad in one of the scene, and yes this animated movie is somewhat on the 'musical' side. That's not a bad thing though.

RIO is such a fun movie, I end up laughing all the time. It didn't disappoint, and live up to my expectation. Though I won't recommend you to watch it in 3D since I don't find anything special in it, 2D will be fine I think =)

The makers of this movie makes sure that this will come out as eye candy, and they did that with flying colors, literally. The movie is so colorful just like Rio De Janeiro and encapsulated the fiesta atmosphere of the city into this movie.  You will leave the movie house, smiling for sure.

RIO opens on April 7, 2011 (Thursday) in 2D and 3D formats in theaters all over the Philippines, from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros. Runs for 96 minutes, rated GP by the MTRCB.
