Brendan Fraser & Harrison Ford in "Extraordinary Measures"

I was supposed to watch the Paramore Concert at Mall of Asia that day, but decided not to go because 1. My ticket is only on the Bronze section & 2. I have no one to accompany me there :) So I just decided  to attend the premiere night of Extraordinary Measures at the Podium.

Anyway, here's a quick synopsis:

Brendan Fraser plays John Crowley, a biotechnology executive whose two youngest children were afflicted with Pompe disease or acid maltase deficiency. Along with his wife Aileen (Keri Russell), he raises money for research scientist Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford), forming a company to develop a drug to save his children's lives. Dr. Stonehill is a composite of the many great scientists and researchers that researched for a cure over the years, among them Drs Arnold Reuser, Ans van der Ploeg, William Canfield and Dr. Yuan-Tsong Chen. The film centers on the Crowleys' two dying children, aged 9 and 7.

In real life, most children with Pompe disease would die before age 2. There is also a juvenile and adult form which can present at almost any age. Those in the real story were 15 months and 7 days old when they got sick. They were 5 and 4 years old when treatment began.Adapted by Robert Nelson Jacobs from a nonfiction book by the journalist Geeta Anand, the film is also an examination of how medical research is conducted and financed.

I was not expecting much on this movie but it delivers. I  think that is the secret if you want to enjoy a certain movie you have to lower your expectation :) Having an enthusiastic seatmate, helps too! The movie is very Pinoy, melodramatic. Lot's of weepie moments but it has many feel good scene too. The inner MMK fan in you, will come out :)

Meredith Droeger (as Megan Crowley) played his part very well, she's a smart kid.  Harrison Ford, also played his role very well. Many people were annoyed on his short-tempered antics. Lot's of one-liners from too.

Over-all the movie is a good one, one thing that I don't like is their movie poster, who would have guess that the movie is all about a child's incurable disease just by looking at that promo poster?
